Warnings on BSA Social
At BSA Socials, we aim to create a vibrant, respectful, and welcoming online community. To maintain this environment, we’ve established a comprehensive warning system that addresses infractions while giving members an opportunity to correct their behavior. Here’s a breakdown of how warnings work on BSA Socials.
Three Types of Warnings:
General Warnings (Thread Comments): These are casual warnings made publicly within a discussion thread. They are meant to gently remind users of proper conduct. For example, a moderator might post a simple message like, “Let’s keep this discussion respectful.”
Private Message Warnings (PMs): A warning sent directly to the user via a private message. These warnings address specific issues discreetly without drawing public attention. For example: “Hi, we noticed your recent post contained inappropriate language. Please review our community guidelines.”
Official Warnings: Formal warnings issued under the "Warn" option in a member’s profile. These warnings document and track violations that may lead to further consequences if repeated. Official warnings come with varying levels and associated points:
Notice Warning: Carries 0 points and serves as a friendly reminder. For instance, “Please avoid derailing the conversation.”
Minor Warning: Carries 2 points and lasts for 1 week. Points expire after this time and address moderately serious infractions.
Major Warning: Carries 3 points and lasts for 2 weeks. Points expire after this time and serve as the final warning before harsher consequences.
What Does It Mean to Be Jailed?
Members who accumulate 3 warning points are considered “Jailed.” This status imposes temporary restrictions while allowing members to remain part of the community. Jailed users experience the following:
A jail icon is displayed on their avatar.
Inability to start new discussions.
Posting restrictions due to flood control.
Their signature is hidden from view.
This step is designed to encourage behavioral improvement while maintaining community participation.
How Do Warning Points Work?
Warning points are active for their respective durations (1 or 2 weeks) and expire afterward. However, they accumulate if multiple violations occur within these timeframes.
Automatic Bans: If a member accrues 5 points or more at any given time, they are automatically banned by the system.
Discretionary Bans: Staff members may impose a ban at their discretion, regardless of a member’s warning points, for severe violations.
